A nose job (also called a rhinoplasty) is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures in the country and in our practice. If you are unhappy with the shape, size, or proportions of your nose, you may be a good candidate for a nose job.  Also, if you are having difficulty breathing through your nose, nasal surgery can improve your breathing at the same time we are making you look better.

Are You a Good Nose Job Candidate?

The best candidates for nose jobs:

• Have a fully developed nose

• Are in good general health

• Are not taking drugs or supplements that may cause complications

• Are psychologically mature and stable

• Understand the risks and benefits of a nose job

• Have realistic expectations

Can I See What I Would Look Like With a Nose Job?

Yes.  At the Feagin and Owen Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center, they have a computer that will assist you in understanding what you would look like after a Rhinoplasty.  This is not an exact science but will help you have an idea of what you might look like.

Age for Nose Job Candidates

The first important factor in deciding whether a nose job is right for you is whether your nose is mature. If your nose hasn't finished growing, a nose job is not a good procedure for you. We will confirm this during your consultation, but for some girls, this may be as young as 14 and for some boys, it may be about 16. If you are a teenager, you must have your parents' consent for a nose job at the Feagin & Owen Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Center.

Health and Nose Jobs

We want to make sure you are healthy before starting your procedure. This means that you do not have any current or chronic illnesses that may affect your healing. Some people at high risk for anesthesia complications may be discouraged from having the procedure. Otherwise, there are few contra-indications for performing nasal surgery on healthy people.

To ensure the best results and maximum safety, it is crucial that you share your full medical history with us before your surgery.  Especially if you have problems with bleeding.

Drugs and Supplements to Avoid

To avoid the risk of serious surgical complications, you must disclose all drugs and supplements you are currently taking. You will have to stop taking anticoagulants and other medications that thin your blood, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin and ibuprofen. Herbal supplements such as ginger, ginkgo, and vitamin E can also increase surgical risks. If you have used cocaine nasally, a nose job is not recommended.

Most people who come to us looking for a nose job are mature, stable individuals seeking the surgery for good reasons. They can understand the procedure and its risks. What Is Aesthetic Nose Surgery?

Aesthetic nose surgery, also called rhinoplasty or a nose job, is a surgical procedure that reshapes your nose to improve its appearance in terms of size, shape, or proportion to your other facial features. Often, it can be combined with surgery to improve the breathing and  function of your nose.

 

What Can Nose Surgery Correct?

Nose surgery is successful at correcting most of the common complaints people have about the appearance of their noses. We commonly perform nose surgery to correct:

• Nose too large compared to other facial features

• Nose that is too wide for the face

• Nose that has humps, bumps, or an unattractive slope

• A bulbous, drooping, or upturned slope

• Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned

• Crookedness or unevenness of the nose
