What is a Breast Lift Surgery?

A breast lift surgery is a surgical procedure that restores a youthful shape to a sagging breasts by tightening the skin , raising the nipple/areola and raising the breast tissue.

How Do I Know if I Need a Breast Lift Surgery?

Sometimes people will tell you all kinds of home tests you can use to tell if you need a breast lift, but there's only one that matters.

You know you need a breast lift surgery if you are constantly bothered by the sagging of your breasts. If you wish you could regain the youthful shape and contour of your breasts, if you wish they were firmer, if you wish your nipples were where they used to be, then a breast lift is the right procedure for you.

Can Breast Implants Correct My Sagging Breasts?

Breast implants can restore fullness to your breasts and correct mild sagging of your breast. If your breasts have lost volume due to weight loss or pregnancy, sometimes breast augmentation will be recommended to restore your breasts to their previous volume. However, if your breasts also have significant sagging, breast implants alone cannot correct it.

To get the best results, some women need a combination of breast lift surgery with breast implants. This allows you to get both volume and an improved contour for your breasts. Will a Breast Lift Make My Breasts Smaller?

No. A breast lift doesn't remove breast tissue. By tightening the skin around your current breast tissue, it may make your breasts look larger or smaller, but it will definitely make them firmer and shapelier.

Are There Different Types of Breast Lifts? How Do I Know Which Is Right for Me?

There are several different types of breast lifts. Each one is designed to give a different amount of lifting. If you only need a little lifting, the periareolar lift is the best. The periareolar lift removes skin from around the nipple/areola, tightens and reshapes the breast mound, elevates the nipple/areola, then closes the incision. The scar from a periareolar or circum-areolar mastopexy is only around the areolar. The keyhole or lollipop lift uses an incision that goes around the nipple/areola and descends to the inframammary crease , where the breast meets the chest. This allows for more lifting and reshaping of the breast lift. The anchor or inverted "T" breastlift gives the most lifting. It involves an incision that circles the areola, descends to the inframammary crease and extends along it. During your consultation, Dr. Feagin or Dr. Owen will evaluate the extent of your breast sagging and let you know what type of breast lift will give you the best results.

Will I Have a Scar After My Breast Lift?

Yes. All surgery types create scars. But with the gentle touch of our surgeons, the scars will likely be faint, especially if you follow all postoperative care instructions. If you need a breast lift, the scar will be a small trade off for the marked improvement of your sagging breast.  Fortunately, no matter what type of breast lift you need, the scars will be at or below the nipple and so will be concealed by swimsuits and clothing.
